YAY! It’s September! We’ve already seen some drop in the temps here in the Southeast, so fall can’t be too far from reality — 20 days from the time I’m writing this. Yes, I am behind again.

Weaving Challenge: 2-Color Interlocking

In the studio recently we have had several people learning or rediscovering 2 color interlocking. I started to write up a tutorial on it and well, it was WAY too long to just pop into the newsletter. So If you would like to read the tutorial I have it as download here.

I have to say that in starting to write about this awesome technique I kept rediscovering ways I have used it in the past. I hope to have a video of the technique finished soon.

Kathy D. explored 2 color interlocking using a variety of variegated yarns. She chose to let the yarns randomize -- she did not attempt to keep colors in order. I think the result is super interesting.
A portion of Swaantje’s cloth with 2 color interlocking using a smooth yarn (on the right) and an eyelash yarn (on the left). The result is totally awesome!

September Special Day of Weaving

As I mentioned last month I am attempting to put one SPECIAL DAY of WEAVING each month on the calendar. So mark Thursday 9/21 on your calendar and signup below!

Time frame: 11 AM – 4 pm (that’s like 2 class sessions in one day! DOUBLE THE FUN!)

Cost:

  • Studio loom: $55 /person /session
  • Studio looms will be dressed with a black cotton warp. Regular Tuesday Students will have the warp they are currently using in class.
  • Personal loom: $45/person/session
  • Personal looms should be fully warped and ready to weave

Ages: Adult

Be sure to bring a snack! There is a refrigerator available. I do not yet have a microwave – sorry.

This is not a project based class. Rather, it is a studio session that is appropriate for all experience levels. Beginners will learn the basics of weaving and loom use along with some fun weft techniques. Intermediate and advanced students will continue the journey of weft techniques. As always, techniques are presented as a possibility and the weaver can choose to use them or not.

Space is limited so use the form below to sign up today! I had wanted to use an event form like we used in the past, but Constant Contact is giving me troubles. Be certain to choose the appropriate response. Once you do I will send an email with directions and a square invoice. If you wish to pay in advance that would be awesome. If not we can take care of it on 9/21.

Calendar

Each month we have several opportunities to join in on the fibering fun. Here is the full calendar with descriptions below.

SOCIAL FIBERING! You can count on your fellow Group Therapy participants to celebrate recent yarn/fiber/tool acquisitions, finished projects, and to encourage you in making more acquisitions and starting yet another project regardless of how many are in progress now. We will also encourage and support you in your attempts at new skills and art forms.

Like FAM, this is not a class it is a social time and so there is no charge. Just show up and do your thing. THAT BEING SAID: there is always help available.

Spinning Sundays @ HanDen Studios

Southside Spinners Spinning Sunday! — 1 pm to 5 pm

Are you a spinner? Drop spindle and wheel spinners gather at the studio on the 2nd Sunday of every month* from 1 pm to 5 pm to spin and share.

Put it on your calendar! 2nd Sunday of EVERY MONTH!

Note that for September we will be at Joe Muggs. Why? Because I scheduled sewing for the same weekend as World Wide Spin in Public Day. So we are celebrating early.

More fun with 2-color interlocking!

I’ve probably forgotten something. I wanted to tell you. It will have to wait until next time.
